A Nun Dies in Sichuan
Oct 18th 2011, 15:06

There have been two more self-immolations by Buddhist monastics in China this weekend, including the first by a nun. This brings the total of these suicide attempts to nine since March.

According to Free Tibet, four of the nine survived. The eight men were current or former monks of Kirti Monastery, in Sichuan Province. The nun, Tenzin Wangmo, 20, was of Dechen Chokorling convent near Kiri monastery. She did not survive.

I am conflicted, as I'm sure many of you are, about this. It's generally understood that suicide is breaking the First Precept. And it's so painful to hear of young people doing this. Surely there is another way to publicize the oppression of Tibetan Buddhism?
