Karmapa Charges Re-surface
Dec 11th 2011, 14:08

As near as I can tell from going through several news stories -- this week police of Una, a portion of Himachal Pradesh State in India, filed a list of charges relating to January's news story about foreign currency and His Holiness the 17th Karmapa.

The police seem to be seeking the Indian equivalent of an indictment against His Holiness and eight other people. It will be up to a court (not a Grand Jury, as in the U.S.) in Himachal Pradesh whether a criminal case will go forward. However, the Union Home Ministry in New Delhi absolved the Karmapa of wrongdoing earlier this year.

I say as near as I can tell; some news stories made it sound as if more money had just been found, and others implied some national Indian Police was behind the new court action. But according to the Chandigarh (India) Tribune, the indictment is sought by local police, and they're still investigating the same money found in January.
