His Holiness the Dalai Lama will meet with President Obama in the White House tomorrow. As usual, the meeting will not take place in the Oval Office but in the White House map room, to placate the Chinese, and will be closed to media. Dan Farber of CBS made a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that perhaps His Holiness could mediate current contentious budget talks while he is in Washington.
Meanwhile, news sources in Asia report that three Buddhist nuns have been sentenced to three years in prison by a court in Sichuan Province, China. The nuns were arrested last month in Kardze County for shouting slogans such as "Free Tibet" and "Let the Dalai Lama return to Tibet."
